There are various drivers for Kent Connects Partners in prioritising what data they should be opening – from government, their own organisations and from citizens.

So in the Open Kent project we have been using these drivers to target which data sets we went after to publish.

Top Tasks

Augmenting the specific requests for information from members of the public is the ‘Top Tasks’ that Socitm collate and publish. ‘Top Tasks’ is a list based on consumer surveys on 140 council websites. From this we can see why people are accessing council websites and what information or services they are requesting.

Gerry McGovern’s blog offers a view on how councils could be using this list to focus their efforts on publishing open data to benefit their citizens, rather than just ‘ticking the box’. Maybe this list is also is a good place to start when developing online local services?
